Celebrating the diversity of Whalley Range!
A Flickr photo group has been set up for Celebrate Whalley Range to showcase our events and activities.

Celebrate is a popular annual event providing information, the opportunity for residents to network and for the local schools, musicians, artists and groups to come together to showcase achievements and discover what’s happening in the area.
Our festival Information and Health arenas feature many stalls with information sharing from local groups and service providers, as a way of giving people greater access to services and knowing what is on offer in their community.
our community website showcases Whalley Range community events and news, with video and photographic footage of performance and music by local performers and artists.
The website acts as an information sharing tool, giving up-to-date information on issues affecting our community including planning issues, police reports and environmental news, providing the opportunity for information sharing from local groups and service providers, as a way of giving people greater access to services and knowing what is on offer in their community.
We strive to challenge any negative perceptions people may have with regard to Whalley Range by encouraging active cross cultural community involvement in our festival events workshops and activities, strengthening community cohesion and encouraging participation from residents from all of the diverse cultures that exist within our ward.
In 2007 we successfully applied for funding to celebrate our 10th anniversary by putting on regular smaller community led events and activities throughout the year, in addition to the traditional May Day Festival, reaching a wider audience and raising the profile of our group.
Our festival and ongoing events aim to support and raise awareness of the many new and emerging groups in our community. As a result of our successful events and activities
Celebrate has built strong links within our community; sharing resources and encouraging participation in local events whilst offering support to groups planning their own activities
Contact Chris on 881 3744 to suggest activities or to get involved.
Volunteers welcome!

The 15th annual 'Celebrate' Community Festival for local residents will take place at JNR8 Youth & Community Centre, Cromwell Avenue, Whalley Range, M16 0BG on May Day Bank Holiday Monday - May 7th - from 12-6pm. As we don't have a central community centre in Whalley Range, our annual event gives residents the opportunity to access local services around health and information. We work with partners to promote health initiatives and invite local services to host stalls to promote themselves and to share information. This popular event attracts hundreds of residents and is a volunteer led event offering local groups, schools, musicians and artists the opportunity to showcase their achievements. Celebrate is a fun social event for members of our diverse community to participate in activities - and to find out what's happening locally. We theme our Festival each year to highlight issues and encourage participation from everyone in the community. This year to celebrate the International Year of Co-operatives, our theme is Co-operation, focusing on bringing members of the community together to work together, share ideas and resources, building support - and raising awareness of co-operative values such as fair trade, environmental concerns and sustainability and ethical investment. ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: If you would like a stall at this year's event please get in touch; information stalls are free of charge (a reduction in funding this year means we would request you bring your own table/chair/gazebo if possible) and if you can provide an activity - that would be fantastic! The Festival is held at a different Whalley Range venue each year: this year our venue is the JNR8 building and grounds and Manley Park Methodist Church - (adjoining the centre) - have kindly allowed us the use of the Church hall to showcase local bands and performers. We will have a health and information area in which health and wellbeing taster sessions will be promoted as well as stalls hosted by various service providers. See the link for last year's Festival Report: http://whalleyrange.org/newsdocs/Celebrate_Report%202011Final.pdf We hope you can join us at our event this year; if you require any more information please get in touch. 0161 881 3744 info@whalleyrange.org www.whalleyrange.org0 points
