On Wednesdays during term-time we have a cookery club for under 12's from 4-6pm, based at the JNR8 Youth & Community Centre in Whalley Range
It is a popular club; we cook a different meal every week - a main course and a healthy (most of the time!) dessert.
All our meals are vegetarian to make the food accessible to everyone.
We have also put all of our recipes into a cookery booklet, which also has health & safety in the kitchen tips and ideas for party food and picnics.
Why not try some of our healthy meals?

Cookery has always been an important activity for young people at our Community Centre.
Past members of the JNR8 Cookery Club made a special appearance last year on the series Ready Steady Cook. The club was invited to appear on the popular show after the show’s producers heard about JNR8’s work promoting cookery skills and healthy eating to young people and its very own book compiled by Lisa Arnold, former project coordinator and editor of Food 4 Us.
For Chloe Buckley, aged 16, and Joshua Tomlinson and Craig Barrett, both aged 11, three budding young chefs from the Cookery Club, it was a dream come true. The trio have actively been involved in cookery and food projects at JNR8 since 2003 and Ready Steady Cook is one of their favourite programmes. The show has also inspired many of the cookery sessions at JNR8 and Ainsley Harriott, the show’s host, and his fellow chefs are positive role models for the young people. The JNR8 delegation included Nicole Pinkney, parent and management committee member, and Lisa Arnold, former project coordinator and editor of Food 4 Us.
Appearing on television was not only a first for the young people, visiting London was also something new and exciting. Wanting to make the most of the day, the group set off early from Manchester in order to see the some of London’s main sights, including Piccadilly Circus, Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament and the Eye of London, before they were due at the TV studio. All in all, it was a very rewarding day that offered a unique opportunity to promote the achievements of young people from Manchester
