Greater Manchester Coalition of Disabled People Living Our Lives

Living Our Lives are workshops and information sharing events for disabled people of all ages living in Manchester. They are an opportunity to find out more about different issues important to disabled people.

Living Our Lives workshops will be spread out through 2016 and early 2017, so let Greater Manchester Coalition of Disabled People (GMCDP) know what you want to find out about these can schedule it in later this year.

The first few sessions are:
Friday 17 June – Find out about us…
Come along and find out about GMCDP, what they offer, how disabled people are organising together and supporting each other work – and if there time, ideas for places to find useful information.

Wednesday 22 June – Making the Most of your Money
Find out about the different concessions available to disabled people.

Wednesday 6 July – Support with Employment
Find out about what support there is to find work, and also support to stay in work and make the workplace more accessible to you. Richard Neil McRobert from Breakthrough UK will be talking about the support Breakthrough offers to disabled people living in Manchester who are seeking employment.
The workshops are being held 2pm-4.30pm, in Unit 4 at the Windrush Millennium Centre, 70 Alexandra Road, Moss Side, M13 7WD.

Alexandra Heritage Group- sub group “The Women’s Peace Crusade”

peace

The Alexandra Park Heritage Group have been invited to join with Ali Ronan and others- see  attached Pdf /Flyer- to recreate the Women’s Peace Crusade of 1916-1917 and their struggle to prevent WW1. A sub group has met to determine what needs to be done.

To help us to do this, we would like to invite you to a meeting in Chorlton Lodge in Alexandra Park on Friday 10th June at 11 am to discuss the following and get your views and if possible, your help and support.

We hope to recreate a peace rally in Alexandra Park , the first weekend in October, and it will be part of a video and book.

Ali has already made a video “These Dangerous Women” and it will be a similar format. We also hope to make the video relevant for those struggling for peace today._see link to video

https://m.youtube.com/watch?V=n8gf2ilViUc

Alex Park has been chosen as there were prominent Conscientious Objectors living near the Park. The Park was used as a place for the rallies, and, there is documented evidence of this.

We need a variety of help to make this work.

We need people willing to research individuals and identify those individual women who were part of the Manchester Peace Crusades, although Ali has already done a great deal of local research to identify some of the women involved.

We need women to speak /role play those women in the video (see the video that has already been made as to what this might mean.),

We need others to be the “crowd” at the rally. Ali has authentic copies of some of the historic leaflets, which some women in the crowd can distribute.

All taking part need to dress in Edwardian costume-( see the video). We need help with costumes.

We need help with making a banner and placards and badges.

We hope to have support from a choir to sing peace songs.

SO- we hope this recreation of history in both a serious and “fun” way will appeal to you and you will want to join in
If you cannot make the meeting, but want to take part, please let us know.

Women’s Peace Crusade
Thanks
Angela Downing, Jenny Riley and Jenni Gomes

The Manchester Strategy

84993.06_Manchester_Strategy_2915_webpage_branding_aw_v2_01

If you were one of the tens of thousands reached by our consultation on how to make Manchester into the place youd want to live, work, play and do business in 2025, thank you for being part of such a huge, inspiring response. The strategy is the culmination of that response. People’s commitment to the city, and their desire to see its future success, shine through it, and it a credit to all who contributed including:

  • Manchester residents themselves, in their thousands
  • the city army of volunteers (our city has around 100,000) from tiny clubs to business-scale operations, and community activists
  • a wide non-resident public – some of our city biggest fans – who work in the city or visit to enjoy our varied culture and leisure
  • business and civic leaders from the city and the city region who added their valuable insights, revealing the extent of their own crucial part in delivering Manchester success.

Responses from across the city were many and varied, but a few themes came through again and again. People of Manchester share the desire to see the city do well, to see Manchester use and value its green spaces, to have a clean city with one of the best public transport systems in the world, to preserve its historic buildings and support those in need.
